Science Services for the Center for Urban School Improvement

Since 2006, CEMSE has been offering science support to the USI Network—a collaboration of charter schools facilitated by the University of Chicago's Center for Urban School Improvement. CEMSE has worked with individual Network schools on a range of projects including analyzing interim science assessment data and using it to inform instruction and learning goals; developing horizontally and vertically-aligned science content maps that are aligned to state and College Readiness Standards; and identifying instructional materials, professional development, and partnerships to support science teaching and learning. Plans for future work include facilitating needs assessments in science and math in Network schools and planning in school support services, based on identified needs and goals. CEMSE also hopes to host a Science Learning Group and issue-based Science Roundtable sessions for staff and leaders from all USI Network schools.
